How To Distinguish Weft Suede From Warp Suede?

- Jul 26, 2024-

Both weft suede and warp suede belong to woven suede, and can be woven by water jet looms and air jet looms. Sea island silk is the fundamental reason why suede can be raised.

The essential difference between weft suede and warp suede also lies in the sea island silk. Weft suede: the weft yarn is the sea island silk, and the warp suede: the warp yarn is the sea island silk! This is also the starting point for distinguishing weft suede from warp suede. To produce weft suede or warp suede, this is designed before the grey cloth is weaved. Often we get a suede sample sent by a customer, which has been sanded and dyed by the dyeing factory. When we see the rough edges, we know it is a woven suede, but is it weft suede or warp suede?

Weft suede and warp suede can be distinguished by the difference in their characteristics:

1. Weft suede is woven using satin weave, with a large color contrast between the front and back sides, and the back is smoother and shiny. The velvet is shorter and more delicate, and there are often similar horizontal bars on the front. The texture is relatively light and thin, and the burrs are also relatively thin.

2. Warp suede has denser and rougher velvet. The texture is relatively thick. The burrs are also relatively rough.

The above is a simple way to distinguish between the two by the difference in appearance characteristics.

Let's introduce the steps of splitting yarns!

1. First, distinguish the front and back. The main feature of suede is the velvet effect. The side with velvet is of course the front!

2. Secondly, distinguish the warp and weft yarns.

2.1 If the customer's sample has burrs, it is very simple. The yarn perpendicular to the burr direction is the weft yarn, and the yarn parallel to the burr direction is the warp yarn.

2.2 What if there are no burrs? Then remove the yarn. The direction with high density is the warp. The direction with low density is the weft.

2.3 After distinguishing the warp and weft, check whether the warp is raised or the weft is raised. The warp is raised for warp suede, and the weft is raised for weft suede.

The weft contains sea island yarn, and the weft is raised. Whether it has been brushed or raised can be easily distinguished by the naked eye. The above method is the most accurate way to distinguish weft suede from warp suede.
